Au Pair's Message to Families

Dear family,

My name is Pille and I really much would like to be Your au pair. I love children and children like me. I want to be an au pair, because I have already babysat some children in Estonia. I finished the university and now I would like to expand my horizon. I studied education, including English. Coming to America would be a great chance to develop my language skills, make new friends, learn more about Your culture and all that by being a good and fun friend and au pair for Your children. I am a fun, kind-hearted, polite and dutiful person. My hobby has been Estonian folk dance for 15 years. I love dancing very much. When I was younger, I played the piano, did athletics and went rowing, but I am still dancing. In my free time, I like reading. During my studies I didn't have a lot of time to read books that I really wanted because I had a lot of compulsory literature, but now I'm making up for the time lost. I like spending time with my friends. Most of my really good friends are also dancers. We spend time at trainings, performances etc. But we also go out: to the cinema, to the theatre, to cafes, riding a bicycle, visit each other and play boardgames. Sometimes we cook together something really delicious. In my family, there are me, my two brothers and my parents. I am the youngest. My brothers are at the moment 34 and 35 years old. When I went to the first grade, they already left to go to the university. After my birth, my brothers were my babysitters and now I am babysitting their children. My mother is a teacher of English and History. This spring she decided to retire and start babysitting my nephew. My father is a decoreter (painter) but he retired already a few years ago. My older brother Marko is a chemist, he is working in a laboratory and Tarmo is working in the ministry of finance. They both have their own families. Marko has moved a lot with his family, but from this summer they are still living in our hometown Pärnu where he found a job. They are at the moment living with my parents because they don't have their own home yet. Marko has two children: a girl Johanna Maria (3) and a boy Johannes Märten (1). Tarmo is living in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. He has a son: Tambet (1). I really much love my niece and nephews, I try to be a cool aunt. I help them as much as I can: go babysitting when needed. The children are quite used to me, their grandparents sometimes are afraid to be with them without me, when my brothers go out with their wives. My parents think that I could calm the children down easier than they could. I also have a beautiful furry white cat. Her name is Ninnu. Besides babysitting my niece and nephews, I have babysat my cousin's two daughters. At the moment they are 8 and 5 years old. Mostly I have babysat the younger one. I started when she was 1,5 years old. My cousin wanted to go back to work, so I helped her whenever I had free time from my lectures. Now are both so old that they play together, I sometimes just stay with them when the parents have to go somewhere. Last two years I have babysat for a boy named Oskar. He was 1 when I started and now he is almost 3 years old. Last year he got a brother, after that I usually was watching both of them. The older was sometimes in the kindergarten, but he was ill a lot, so they were both at home. They are building a house, the parents tried to do as much as they could themselves. They very much needed me to be with their children. Sometimes from early in the morning till late at night. This year I had to write my BA thesis and go to some lectures, so I babysat the boys whenever I had free time from school. I really much liked being with them, they were very sweet and fun. We did lots of thing together: played, read a book, did jigsaw puzzles, went out for a walk etc. I have cared for children between the age of 0 - 8. I have learned a lot during this time. I have learned how to change the diapers, how to cloth small children, how to react to their different needs, how to solve problems, what to do with them when they are bored. During my studies, I lived alone, I learned to cook for myself and sometimes I did that also for the children. I really much like the time that I spend with my niece and nephews, children of my cousin and those two boys. I would like to continue caring for children and at the same time developing my English skills and learning more about American culture, because when I was in Florida this March, I really much liked what I saw, but that wasn't enough for me. I loved the people and I would really much like to be a part of Your family when discovering America through Your childrens' eyes. I know You would like me, because I am a nice person, I would love your children and we would have the best year of our lives.
